Cornerstone Church
Central Floridians looking for hope and purpose for their lives have found that in Jesus at Cornerstone Church, one of CFR's partner churches. Lead Pastor Kevin Key says that Cornerstone has seen rapid growth and, more importantly, people’s lives are being changed because they have been with Jesus. Their children’s ministry has doubled in size this year and so have baptisms.
Cornerstone Church in central Florida added a fourth service a few short months ago and is already on the cusp of needing to add a fifth. But that’s not the only sign of new life in Christ.
Those same people are giving, serving, and growing through discipleship. Cornerstone supports a dozen missions, sending teams out into the local community and into places like Cuba to share the gospel and provide practical help to those in need.
Pastor Kevin Key and Executive Pastor Bob Combs have seen 72 people baptized through early August. That’s more than all of last year. Cornerstone’s weekend services and ministry to kids now affect more than 100 children, double the number of last year.
Cornerstone is a church of small groups with over sixty percent of the members participating.
“A lot of our new people come to Cornerstone looking for purpose in their life” Combs said. “There’s a genuine desire in people to search for purpose in their lives.”
Cornerstone’s leadership is so grateful for what God has done since the church met with Christian Financial Resources staff in 2005. That’s when they needed a loan to fund a building program.
“CFR is a key partner in this,” Key said. “I don’t think we could do this effectively without them.”
Combs added that the church is beginning an initiative to build a larger worship center that could seat as many as 500. The current space seats only 150, requiring the church to keep adding services as individuals seek the Lord.
A thriving program to feed hungry neighbors has also reached capacity in the current building. They can distribute 240 bags of groceries and feed 200 people at a time in the current space. So, a new worship center would allow the congregation to repurpose the current building for discipleship, small groups, youth, Bible study, and additional ministry.
“They’re helping us manage and execute this fundraising campaign,” Key said of CFR’s latest partnership with the Florida church.
God has brought tradesmen with various skill sets and an architect to Cornerstone at just the right time as they work with CFR’s planning and lending expertise. Combs and Key have confidence that God is supplying the congregation’s needs at just the right time in just the right way.
“OK God, we’re going to build this building because you want us to,” Combs said.
